Among the gear borrowed from 'Service des A' was a 6 inch hemp rope, which was an unknown potential source of considerable danger to us until is was discovered that its breaking strain was less than 1 ton. The breaking strain of 6 inch hemp should be in the neighborhood of 6 tons. Fortunately this rope broke several times at unimportant moments and its
