Sandstorm increased in the morning and continued all day, making work impossible.

Officers of the 7th Battalion A.I.F. were shown over the works.

News of important Russian victory over the Turks, both at Sarykamysh and at Ardahan. This ought to distract Turkish attention from Egypt.

Friday, January 8, 1915

Trenches now filled with sand and limestone debris.

Work on chamber of G 4940 B. Gravelly debris.

South storm continues. Showers of rain from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Reisner dined with Officer's Mess, 6th Battalion, and saw the Second Brigade march out in silence for a secret night march. Received notification that the archaeological committee have decided to reserve the German and Austrian concessions until the end of the war.
