No developments of note.

Met Edgar at Sir M.M.'s office and arranged to see him at 11:30. Edgar and I went to Museum, talk matter over with Quibell. We then returned to P. Works at 11:45 and saw Sir M.M. at noon. The concessions have been annulled. Sir M.M. said it was useless to try to keep them for the Germans or for Germans to ever receive any favors from Britain. He asked me if that declaration made any difference to my point of view. I said it did and that I would apply for Tell Amarna. Note that I agreed with Edgar in Quibell's presence to make all arrangements about guards at all our sites subject to Edgar's approval. I ordered Said Ahmed to instruct the guards to make their complaints direct to Tewfik Effendi the Egyptian local inspector.

Saw Edgar off on 8:30 train for Assuit. Send Said Ahmed with him. Afterwards called on Daressy, apologized for not having been able to discuss the matter with him before and explained our plans and proposals. Having Giza and Bersheh, I wish to apply for Tell Amarna which adjoins Bersheh on the south. Tannat which belongs to Amarna I have no intention of working but will resign it at the request of the Service at any time. As for Bersheh, Bersheh and Amarna together supply us with sites of the two periods we have not been able to work - Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom. I would like therefore to have the joint site, but if the Committee decide otherwise, I would, of course, accept their decision without question. He told me to send in my application. In the evening I wrote out the application (dated December 24) and ordered Mohammed-ani to deliver it tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
