Sunday, January 31, 1915 (continued)
Early in the afternoon L.T. Williams came to the camp. I had promised a few days ago to let him look at Erman’s and Breasted’s books. His home address is Myrtleford P.O., Victoria, and his address while with the troops is No.429, Davis [?] Williams, Ov.[?] 2. I.S.C., First Australian Division. One of the finest fellows I ever met.
Wrote Dr. Reisner, enclosing letters.
Monday, February 1, 1915
Day of rest for the men. I wrote Dr. Reisner enclosing a number of letters for himself and Fisher. Reis Mahmud and I went to Cairo on the nine o’clock train, and went to see Congdon in regard to the tools which they supposed had arrived from Burroughs Wellcome & Co., London. Rev. Dr. James Alan Montgomery of the American School of Oriental Research called while I was in Cairo, to see Fisher and left a card saying he would try again. It is raining hard this evening. Last night Bechari took a photograph showing only space between 3030 and 3050, and I have asked him to photograph the whole field tomorrow morning before the men start work. Reis Mahmud presented me with an English-Arabic book which he purchased in Cairo.
