Shafts A-B-C of 3021 contained sand and limestone debris.
The mounted military policeman told me there were 13 cases of smallpox in the camp with two deaths. The wind is north and cold.

Shafts B and C of 3012 are cleared of their limestone debris. In C was a clamshell. Shaft D of 3012 (or it may be shaft A of 3012) contains sand and a dark debris, while E of 3001 has sand and limestone debris. Shafts C and D of 3021 also contain sand and limestone debris. The sand between 3021 and 3031 is now removed, and the north end of 3021 is being followed. In the debris of shaft X, which is between the north end of 3001 and 3012, was a broken limestone offering basin, and a few of the usual small ceremonial cups and saucers and few potsherds. Shafts A-B-C of 3031 are bing cleared of limestone debris. As the work at this end is now practically finished, the railroad is being shifted farther to the north.
On Thursday last Bechari made photographs of shafts 3000 B (C27) and of 3000 E (C28). The door of the burial chamber in the latter was sealed with mud bricks and a few stones. C29 is a view of shaft 2090 [= G 3090] C, showing the simple large limestone block which sealed the opening into the burial chamber.
