Friday, August 30, 1935, the Pyramids

The workforce was 7 people. Excavation was progressing in (1) shaft 2320 [= G 5280] I; [and] (2) shaft 5032a F.

(1) Shaft 2320 [= G 5280] I

Barbary [Ahmed] and 7 workmen were in this shaft. They dug down a total of 730 cm. The debris is sand and limestone chips on top [of] dark soil and paper. There are also small pieces of cloth in the debris. They found wood fragments in the fill of the shaft. Burial chamber II is to the south. It is cut into the Gebel and bends east, then north. There are only two courses of stone blocks from the blockage. The blockage is broken on top. In the burial chamber, there are bones of [a] human skeleton and [the] bones of a bull. There are also two wood fragments of a wooden coffin. The wooden fragments are tossed in the burial chamber and are not in place. In the southeast corner of the burial chamber, there is a recess lined with rubble [for canopic jars?]. They have not yet reached the rock bottom of the shaft; nor have they started clearing the burial chamber.

(2) Shaft 5032a F

We moved the skeleton that was in the burial chamber. Here is its drawing:

(2) Mastaba 2353

We moved two limestone fragments of [the] basin, one bearing the remains of hieroglyphs, to the house. The two fragments were on top of the mastaba.

(3) Mastaba 2360

We moved six limestone fragments to the house. Only one small fragment is inscribed; the inscription of another fragment [is] in bad condition. A sketch of the fragments’ scenes is on the next page (2039).
