Monday, November 11, 1935, the Pyramids (continued)

(1) Shafts 2347a B, C, D, [and] E [= G 5563 B, G 5564 A, B, C] (continued)

Shaft [2347a] E [= G 5564 C]

Duwy [Mahmoud Ahmed], Ahmed Al-Mizlef, and some workmen were in the shaft. It is south of shaft [2347a] D [= G 5564 B]. The walls are stones and rubble. The eastern wall has a hole that opens onto shaft [2347a] C [= G 5564 A]. They dug down a total of 200 cm. The debris is limestone, rubble, dark soil, and fragments of mud-bricks. We found in the fill of the shaft:

1 head of a wooden statuette (missing the ears)

1 large fragment of a limestone false door, broken and inscribed (the inscriptions are in bad condition)

2 busts and arms of wooden statuettes

1 bust of a wooden statuette, missing the head and the arms

1 foot of a wooden statuette, rotted and missing some toes

some fragments of plaster, colored red, blue, and white

6 pottery jars (one of them missing its base)

These objects were found on top of a layer of compacted sand, mud-bricks, rubble, and dark soil. Under this layer of debris, we found 11 limestone fragments. Some of these fragments are colored red and blue, while others are not painted. The fragments were originally for vessels, pestles, and mortars [?]. We left the objects for drawing and photography. Here are sketches of the inscribed stone blocks:
