Friday, August 9, 1935, the Pyramids (continued)

[Mastaba 5020-]Annex Shaft [A]

The abovementioned workmen were in this shaft. The debris is limestone chips, rubble, potsherds, and dark soil. The burial chamber is to the south. It is cut into the Gebel; there were no blocking stones. There is nothing in the burial chamber except for some debris. They found in the fill of the shaft:

5 small pottery cups, some broken

2 pottery ink pots

1 pottery dish

fragments of pottery dishes

potsherds

1 limestone cone

base of [a] limestone vessel

wood fragments

We left the debris of the burial chamber for photography and drawing.

Saturday, August 10, 1935, the Pyramids

The workforce was 7 people. Excavation was progressing in (1) shaft 1177 F; (2) shaft 4920 A; (3) Mastaba 5020 [and 5020-Annex]; and (4) Mastaba 5030.

(1) Shaft 1177 F

Mr. Bill [William Stevenson Smith] and Duwy [Mahmoud Ahmed] removed the cloth wrapping that was on the skeleton. There are fragments of [a] wooden coffin. They cleared the burial chamber. Here is its drawing:

We moved the skeleton that was in the burial chamber. We cleared it. Its drawing is on the next page (2012).
