ILLUSTRATION

Friday, May 24, 1935, the Pyramids (continued)

(1) West of [Mastaba] 1152

We found in the debris on top of the ledge: 5 pottery jars small dishes and cups

We left the ledge for drawing and photography.

(2) [Mastaba] 1156 and Shafts U and V

Barbary Ahmed and a crew of workmen were on top of this mastaba. The debris is sand, limestone chips, and potsherds. They found shafts U and V.

Shaft [1156] U

The abovementioned workmen were in this shaft. Its walls are stone blocks and Roman bricks [i.e., a common designation for large mud-bricks among Egyptian workmen]. The shaft is in the southwest [corner] of the mastaba. They dug down 185 cm. The debris is limestone chips and sand. Its burial chamber is to the north. The walls are lined with stones and bricks. The ceiling was lined but the lining blocks are lost. There were no blocking stones. They cleared it. Its drawing is on the next page (1955).
