Monday, April 8, 1935, the Pyramids

The workforce was 7 workmen. We paid them their wages: a total of 205 piasters. Excavation was progressing (1) south of Mastaba 1209; (2) shafts 1358 A and B; (3) shaft 1401 A; and (4) shaft 1413 C.

(1) South of Mastaba 1209

Barbary Ahmed and 7 workmen were south of this mastaba on the eastern end of the street. The debris is sand, limestone chips, rubble, and mudbrick fragments. They found small pottery dishes and cups on the street. They found shafts without burials.

(2) Shafts 1358 A and B

Shaft 1358 A

Barbary Ahmed and some workmen were in this shaft. It is rubble. They dug down 125 cm. The debris is sand. Its burial chamber is to [the] east. Its walls are lined with rubble and the ceiling is lined with stone slabs. There were no blocking stones. There is a skeleton in the burial chamber; the head is to [the] north. We left the skeleton in place for drawing. We could not photograph the skeleton because the burial chamber is too small.

Shaft [1358] B

The abovementioned workmen were in this shaft. It is rubble and mudbrick. They dug down 160 cm. The debris is sand. Its burial chamber is to [the] west. The walls are lined with rubble. The ceiling is lined with stone slabs. There were no blocking stones.
