Diary Translation: begin page 1847

Monday, December 17, 1934, the Pyramids

The workforce was 6 people. We paid them their wages: a total of 200 piasters. Excavation was progressing (1) east of Mastaba 1407; (2) on shaft 1457 A.

(1) East of Mastaba 1407

Said Hasan and 6 workmen were working east of this mastaba, i.e., north of Mastaba 1407 chapel a. The debris is wind-blown sand and some mudbrick fragments. [They are] clearing in front of the entrance of the chapel.

(2) Shaft 1457 A

The abovementioned workmen together with Mr. Bill [William Stevenson Smith], Dawi, and El-Shatter were in the burial chamber. The debris is stone blocks, rubble, and limestone chips. There is a cut in the floor in the southeastern corner. The ceiling of the burial chamber is stone slabs. There are strips of red paint on the ceiling. They found in the fill:

pieces of wood

copper pieces

1 copper pin

1 inscribed mud sealing

a fragment of mud sealing

pieces of cloth

ox bones

fowl bones

many miniature pottery bowls and cups, some complete and some broken

They have not yet finished clearing the burial chamber.

There was no work because of the market.

Wednesday, December 19, 1934, the Pyramids

The workforce was 7 people. Excavation was progressing on (1) shaft 1457 A.

(1) Shaft 1457 A

Said Hasan and 7 workmen were working with Mr. Bill [William Stevenson Smith], Dawi, and El-Shatter in the burial chamber. The debris is stone blocks, rubble, limestone chips, and sand. They found in the fill:
