Sunday, November 4, 1934, the Pyramids

The workforce was 7 people from Nazlet es-Samman. Excavation was progressing on (1) Mastaba 1457.

(1) Mastaba 1457

Hamid Qenawi and workmen from Nazlet es-Samman were working on this mastaba to the south, on the street between this mastaba and Mastaba 1407. The debris is sand, rubble, and stone blocks. Clearance was progressing in search of the serdab and inscribed blocks. So far, they found nothing.

Monday, November 5, 1934, the Pyramids

The workforce was 7 people from Nazlet es-Samman. Excavation was progressing on (1) Mastaba 1457.

(1) Mastaba 1457

Hamid Qenawi and workmen from Nazlet es-Samman were working on this mastaba to the south, on the street between this mastaba and Mastaba 1407. The debris is sand, rubble, limestone chips, and bricks. The entrance of Chamber a was discovered; it opens to the east. The door jambs are mudbrick coated with lime plaster. The plaster is decorated with red dots. Also, the limestone lintel of the door was discovered. It is inscribed and bears the cartouche of King Khufu.

We also found loose in the fill in front of the abovementioned room:

They have not yet cleared the area in front of the entrance. Because of photography they have not yet started clearing the room.

Tuesday, November 6, 1934, the Pyramids

There was no work.

Wednesday, November 7, 1934, the Pyramids

Excavation was progressing on (1) shaft 1451 B; and (2) [Mastaba] 1457 chamber a.

(1) Shaft 1451 B

Mr. Bill [William Stevenson Smith], Mr. Floroff, and Dawi removed the blocking stones of burial chamber II. Inside the burial chamber, there is a wooden coffin with its lid on it. The coffin is on a north-south axis; it is decorated with white paint. After photographing, Mr. Bill [William Stevenson Smith] lifted up some wood fragments that were found fallen next to the wooden coffin on the north and the south. We have not yet lifted the lid of the coffin.

(2) [Mastaba] 1457 Chamber a

Hamid Qenawi and workmen from Nazlet es-Samman were working at the front of the entrance and inside the room. The debris is sand, limestone chips, and fallen bricks. The debris in the room is loose sand. They cleared the area in front of the entrance. They have not yet cleared the room.
