(4) Grave 5 of Kafr Ghattati

Yassin was excavating Grave 5. The debris is loose sand. This grave is square and built with mud brick. They cleared it. They did not find anything in it. Here is its drawing.

(5) Grave 6 of Kafr Ghattati

And also Mahmud Hanafi was excavating Grave 6. The debris is sand, flint and mud brick. The debris is mixed, because of plundering activities. They found in the debris:
2 pottery jars
[some] fragments of a pottery plate
[some] fragments of pottery

And we found a complete pottery jar in situ. Here is a drawing of Grave 6.

(6) Grave 7 of Kafr Ghattati

And also Mahmud Hanafi uncovered Grave 7. It is for a small child. It is very shallow. Its height is only one and half courses of mud brick. Here is its drawing.

Yassin Ali was excavating Grave 8 of Kafr Ghattati. The debris is loose sand and flint. The debris is mixed, because of plundering activities. This grave is square. It is built with mud brick. They found in the debris:
½ carnelian bead
1 fragment of a copper ring
34 carnelian beads

They cleared this grave. Here is its drawing.

ILLUSTRATION

A crew of workmen was excavating to the north of this grave. They were digging test-trenches.
Then today, we roofed Tawfik’s room. We also floored the magazine.

Friday, November 21, 1924

The workforce was 79 workmen from the village. A crew of 16 workmen from the village was excavating at Kafr Ghattati. They were joined by 6 workmen from Kafr Ghattati.

Excavation was progressing on (1) Pyramid [G] I-a; (2) Pyramid [G] I-b; (3) Grave 4 of Kafr Ghattati; (4) Grave 6 of Kafr Ghattati; (5) Graves 8; (6) Grave 9 of Kafr Ghattati; and (7) Grave 10 of Kafr Ghattati.

(1) Pyramid [G] I-a

Excavation was progressing on the area to the south of Pyramid [G] I-a. The debris is limestone chips and rubble. They were exposing the southeast corner.

(2) Pyramid [G] I-b

And also excavation was progressing on the area between this pyramid and Pyramid [G] I-a. The debris is limestone chips, rubble, potsherds and dark soil. The debris is mixed because of sebakh-digging activities. They exposed the northeast corner of this pyramid. The foundation platform of this pyramid is cut into the bedrock.
