(2) Grave 1 of Kafr Ghattati

Then today Ali Al-Gamal arrived at the camp. We talked about the grave, which he dug [in Kafr Ghattati]. He told us that he could not show us the exact location of the grave, because it is very close to the Master’s house. I then asked him if he could show us the location of this grave. He said, “Yes”. I then sent Mahmud Hanafi and Yassin and a crew of 5 workmen with him. The workmen were from Kafr Ghattati. They excavated Grave 1. They cleared wind-blown sand. The grave is square. It is built with mud brick. They found:
2 fragments of a stone plate
½ ivory pin
They cleared the grave. Here is its drawing.

(3) Grave 2 of Kafr Ghattati

They then started clearing grave 2. They removed debris of sand and flint. This grave is square. It is built with mud brick. It was roofed with wooden beams covered with mud plaster. But when the wood rotted, the roof collapsed. We found in this grave a coffin, inside which there is a skeleton in contracted position. The coffin is damaged. We also found:
1 whetstone
1 siltstone bowl
1 limestone ink pot
1 alabaster bowl with two handles
2 large pottery jars
