Thursday, January 27, 1927

This morning part of the field, which lies to the north of the railway, was tackled. Walking along the large Reisner brick mastaba, the workers quickly identified a stone mastaba, which is attached to the former in the west. Inscription on the architrave is only partially carved out. Also on the round beams the hieroglyphs are incomplete, you can see only that the deceased was a priest at the Pyramid of Khufu; from his name only an ‘m’ and ‘š’ are preserved. Even the building itself has not been completed after the original plans because the cult chamber received a brick-clay debris roof instead of the usual stone. A woman is represented on the false door in the south; also here the hieroglyphs are only partially carved out, the rest of the inscription is painted in black ink. Today in 1108 cars were required by the North group.

Friday, January 28, 1927

Today in the north section we totaled 1200 carts. A broader line of connection could be reached at the adjacent northern Reisner excavation. Here a wall was wrought in order to prevent the build up of the sand. To the east of the large brick mastaba there appears a small enclosure made of stone with a weathered false door in the south. It belongs to a singer, Hetep-khenmet.

The large brick mastaba, in whose southern building we have found the statue of a woman, represents a problem. It consists of strong outer walls, inside straight, sloped outward, without any internal cross wall. The entire room is filled with debris, and to date we have not succeeded…
