… fragments lying around from stone sarcophaguses from Dynasty IV were systematically and numbered by M.J., maybe that is an instance where the bigger part comes together. Even so, the fragments of [?] were numbered and collected for the individual graves, especially for the 4th Dynasty, as far as possible to obtain the basis for development during the Old Kingdom.

Saturday, January 16, 1926

The excavation is concentrated in the grounds south of Kaemanch. For the present, the debris is still dumped in the street outside of Iabtet, which the southern and northern close with a wall. Meanwhile, the road to the south of Kapuptah is thoroughly cleaned. Since it is only late and possesses few interesting fixtures, it should also be closed to the north and south and used as a garbage dump. The late tombs which appear here are numbered from 2000 onwards, the series begins with this excavation.

Sunday, January 17, 1926

(Sunday) Today the two carpenters finish working through the crates, which will hold the skeletons from 2999 etc. In the afternoon the men visit the German Institute.

Monday, January 18, 1926

Like in the morning, the human remains of the said graves 2999 etc. are excavated, numbered, and preliminary dates specified in the crates. Hence, the road south of Kapuptah was clear and the workers started immediately to unload the rubble here. In the depths of the sands not south from Kaemanch, it certainly did not contain all the debris and sand and it was therefore decided to take the road over Iti (to the south of Iabtet) and north of the depression to reach Weneshet.
