Sunday, January 3, 1926

12 o’clock at night arrival of the expedition members in Port Said. Registration of passport and customs formalities. Assignment of a telegram by Reïs Sadîq. Stay overnight. Mr. Koch stays in Port Said, to bring the boxes of photographic material, which arrived on an earlier steamboat, from the customs station and expedite to Cairo.

Monday, January 4, 1926

8 o’clock in the morning departure to Cairo. Arrival there at 12:30. Reïs waits for us at the station. K. Holey, M. and H. Junker go immediately with luggage to our camp, where Koch, Abazîd Gebrîl, who arrived on the day before, had lunch ready. In the afternoon H.J. visited the head of the neighboring American excavation, Mr. Professor Reisner, whose concession in the south and north abut ours. He provided us a dozen people proficient in disposal from his foremen and his team, which are to form the core of our workforce. Several had already been engaged on our pre-war excavation. Visit to the output excavated site.

Tuesday, January 5, 1926

H.J. went in the early morning to Cairo to the General Director of the Antiquities Administration Mr. Lacau. The input of the academy for the renewal of the concession should already be in our hands by his statement, but it turned out that it was still in the office, because the attached sketch had just been completed. To out surprise, the Egyptian commission had only partially granted our application.
