On the top of the mastaba, east of G 2015 in order to expose the lining and shafts of G 2016 for drawing. Sand, limestone debris and dubsh. Nothing exposed yet.

Tuesday, July 13, 1937
Day of rest.

Received a telegram from the American Express Co. wanting the boxes of antiquities to be sent to the Cairo museum.

Wednesday, July 14, 1937

Send the boxes to the Cairo museum to be sealed. All the guards and boys were busy. The cases are nineteen. Sixteen antiquities, one plates and two from Hetepheres furniture. They are numbered MFA 336 to MFA 354.

G 4631 A: In shaft. Lined with dubsh and crude brick underneath and rock below. It is south of B. Down 2.9 meters. Limestone debris, dubsh, sand and potsherds. Not reached the rock in shaft. Not reached the chamber.

G 4631 C: In shaft and chamber. Lined with dubsh above and bound with mud, crude brick bound with gypsum underneath, stones underneath and rock below. It is north of E. Total depth 7.55 meters. Excavated before 6.7 meters. Sand and black debris. Chamber on east. Cut in rock. No blocking. Break through shaft E. Cleared. Drawing.

G 4631 D: In shaft and chamber. Lined with dubsh above, only east lined with crude brick and rock below. It is north of F. Down 5.65 meters. Excavated before 4.7 meters. Limestone debris and dubsh. Chamber on south. Cut in rock. No blocking. Cleared. Not reached the rock in shaft. The shaft descended below the chamber.

G 4631 F: In shaft. Lined with dubsh and bound with mud. Only on east lined with crude brick. It is north of G. Total depth 2.45 meters. Excavated before 1.7 meters. Sand and dirty debris. Ended at rock. No chamber, type 7x.

G 4631 G: In shaft. Lined with dubsh on north and west, and with crude brick on south and east. It is south of F. Total depth 2.6 meters. Ended at rock. No chamber, type 7x.

G 4631 H: In shaft. Lined with dubsh, only on south with crude brick. It is west of G. Total depth 1.8 meters. Excavated before 1.1 meters. Sand and dirty debris. Ended at rock. No chamber, type 7x.

G 4631 D: In shaft, below chamber I. Total depth 7.6 meters. White limestone debris. Chamber II appeared on north. Cut in rock. Blocked with stones and dubsh and bound with mud. Blocking left for photo.

    • Remarks Wife of King Snefru, founder of Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty, and mother of King Khufu, builder of the Great Pyramid. Her burial was hidden in a secret chamber (labeled G 7000 X) nearly 90 feet underground, and contained beautiful pieces of gilded and inlaid wooden furniture, silver jewelry, and a large alabaster sarcophagus that was found to be mysteriously empty.
