January 9 (continued)

[Menkaure quarry cemetery (continued)]
The west wall of C [= MQ 132] on the map is interesting, showing how a chamber was built when the rock did not afford sufficient room [ILLUSTRATION]. The rock as well as the masonry, is a poor white limestone.

[Menkaure quarry cemetery]
Work as yesterday. While clearing the roof of mastaba "D" [= MQ 120] on the plan of yesterday, three of the stones broke, and fell into the offering chamber which is thus found to be inscribed. The roofing slabs were about 30 cm thick, but of poor limestone.

In clearing out the debris of G 2375 A, faience beads of various shapes and part of a small inscribed jar seal were found. The King's Horus name appears in part, but so little is preserved as to make the reading doubtful. It is, however, apparently a Dynasty 5 seal.

[Menkaure quarry cemetery]
Work as yesterday.
Mastaba "C" [= MQ 132] on the plan given the day before yesterday was cleared.

[ILLUSTRATION]
[plan of C = MQ 132 and E = MQ 133]
a = bier.
b = small chamber with few bones in debris.
c = bier?
d = offering hall.
e, f = biers, e = opened.
g = untouched floor of quarry.
h = wall broken here.

The door of Mastaba D [= MQ 120] was found on the eastern side of that tomb. The upper casing is very nicely inscribed.
