clear the site up.

[G 1501]
While writing word came from the works that a statue had been found. I went down and found that a small stone mastaba had been cleared which had a long offering chamber along its east face with two smaller chambers in the northeast, and southeast corners, not opening into the long one or having any exit. In the southeast one, which was roofed with flat slabs, was a small seated pair of red and black speckled granite [MFA 12.1488, inscribed for Irankhptah and Niankhhathor]. It was about 50 cm high and in good preservation. On the knees, or rather between the pairs of knees are the names of the figure. It was not in situ, but covered with and resting on sand. A series of photographs are being made showing chamber with roof and filling above roof, filling removed down to the three slabs of roof. Then figures after roof removed.
To the south of this mastaba is a long room forming part of another small mastaba, the remainder of its plan being occupied by three square pits.
All of these mastabas have been rebuilt and reused.

About 3 p.m. Dr. Reisner's cablegram was brought out:
"Fisher, c/o Congdon, Cairo. Begin dig mastabas northeast corner edge Lythgoe's work. Reisner."
