No. 1371:
(c) The northern half of beam 1371, the part lying on coffin. See pages 1039/1042 and 1330/1331. Consists of copper bottom, copper end with tenon and socket, large staple (9), small staples (6), (7), (8) and (11), cylindrical copper socket (10), and gold sheet. Decayed wood and two circular plaster pads for cylindrical sockets. [ILLUSTRATION]. (10) [ILLUSTRATION]. Staples (6), (7), (8), (11) are like (4), see above. [ILLUSTRATION] Staples driven in wood (probably in prepared holes) so that the ends protruded, the ends were then hammered down along the grain and into the wood. Removed (9) and (10) (detached) and detached gold sheet. Gold sheet had been slumped between edge of copper and wood. Treated wood on copper bottom. Racked (b) on board and sent it up.
N.B. The beams under 1371 are badly broken.
