a letter dated November 28 last, from M. Maspero addressed to Dr. Reisner, stating that owing to the demand of the fallaheen for sebbakh the Awlad Yahia concession would have to be finished this year. The last reports from the guards at Girga state that everything there is quiet and that the pilfering has stopped. The weather continues mild and still.

A mud brick chapel C built against the entrance to the stone chapel B of mastaba IX 3 [= G 2150] [ILLUSTRATION]. The mastaba belongs to the Khafre period, the owner [Kanefer] being connected with the court of Khafre, the latter's cartouches appearing in the inscription. A particularity of his mastaba is the difference in facing. The main faces where exposed i.e. whole south side and most of east is stepped in horizontal courses [ILLUSTRATION], with well dressed faces. But for a length of 1.5 meters to 1.6 meters on either side of entrance (AA) the stone is of better quality, in deeper courses and is dressed to a continuous slope [ILLUSTRATION].
